REDUCE YOUR RISK FOR TYPE 2 DIABETES

1 out of 3 us adults has prediabetes. Only 11% know they have it.Type 2 diabetes affects more than 29 million individuals across the country and nearly 200,000 people across Coastal Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina. Another 86 million nationwide have prediabetes and are at risk of developing diabetes, but only 11% are aware of it. The YMCA of South Hampton Roads has partnered with the YMCA of the USA and the Centers for Disease Control to reduce the prevalence of diabetes in our region.

Prediabetes is a serious health condition and a precursor to developing type 2 diabetes, a disease that can lead to stroke, heart disease, kidney failure, blindness and other complications. Through the Diabetes Prevention Program, at-risk individuals can delay or prevent development of type 2 diabetes.
